Seaport-e was a departure for the Navy from the standard pitch process companies had to go through to bid for naval contracts.
The new approach has mad it far easier for small business to work on Navy contracts and in turn has opened up the range of expertise
which the Navy can call upon.
Using the Seaport-e platform contractors can be sought for technical assistance and guidance, modeling and prototyping and ongoing support of Naval projects.
Seaport-e has been an exciting new addition to the process of bidding for Naval contracts.
"By direction of the NEC decision of 29 November 1999, the Support Services Acquisition Program Office (SSAPO) was established in March 2000. This office is responsible for the development of the detailed process, plans and the vehicles for NAVSEA to procure Professional Support Services (PSS) in the most efficient and effective manner, enabling the PEOs/Directorates to absorb the strategic sourcing wedge with minimal impact on their ability to meet their mission."
